Artist Statement:

As an Afro-American man living and working in America for 31 years, I'm dedicated to challenging stereotypes and showcasing the beauty and individuality of black men and women. Inspired by a mix of cultural influences, from religion to the innocence of youth and the rhythm of black music, my work bridges contemporary beliefs with the visuals of our natural diaspora. Despite lacking formal education, I bring a double dose of determination and creative innovation to the art world, navigating the challenges of Corporate America as an independent artist. Committed to disrupting traditional norms, my art speaks to the resilience of black identity and the determination required to excel beyond systemic barriers.

Maaly Williams, the Afro-American Art Pluralist hailing from Chicago, IL, is a visionary creator blending the realms of real life and fantasy through the dynamic mediums of acrylic paint, graphic design, and sculpture. His artistic mission transcends mere manifestation, aiming to evoke profound ideas and emotions. With a core belief that art goes beyond words, Maaly strives to instill the importance of self-knowledge and ignite the creativity of those around him, encouraging the expression of emotions and self-positivity through art. Inspired by early encounters with graffiti murals courtesy of his big brother and the magic of cartoons, Maaly realized his true talent in his junior year of high school. Eager to diversify his artistic repertoire, he enrolled in design school, later opting to channel his talents into building a Graphic Design agency, recognizing his potential to thrive without the burden of debt. Rejecting the notion that words hold excessive power, Maaly asserts that statements are most effective when translated visually.
